A true pioneer in the world of wine, Bree is the first female Master of Wine in the Pacific Northwest and an advocate for natural fermentation and varietal diversity. Alongside enologist Chad Stock, she’s helping shape the future of the Willamette Valley with sustainable, exciting wines that go beyond Pinot Noir.

Bree’s mission is to educate, inspire, and lead with purpose, championing sustainability, diversity, and wellness in the wine industry. She is dedicated to making wine approachable and helping us appreciate the unique stories behind each bottle. ‘Socks to the FLame’: A Sock Burning Party & Celebration of Spring Extravaganza

Join us @ The Shed on March 22nd for the inaugural ‘Socks to the Flame”: A Sock Burning Party & Celebration of Spring Extravaganza, a fun-filled celebration that honors the rich history of the Maritime Sock Burning tradition! This lively event marks the official start of Spring and boating season, all while embracing the timeless spirit of defiance and renewal. We are proud to partner with the Warrior Sailing, a program of the USMMA Sailing Foundation, Inc. a 501(c)3 public foundation. All proceeds raised during the event will go to support the organizations efforts to provides maritime education for wounded, ill, and injured veterans, to support wellness, recovery and reintegration.

Additionally, we’re excited to reveal that Seas Seas Bait & Tackle will be serving up a mouthwatering Frogmore Stew featuring local shrimp and fresh produce from the Port Royal Farmers Market! 🍤🥕 Food tickets will be available for a donation at the event, so come hungry and support a great cause!

For a true taste of the coast, a small selection of local oysters will also be available for sampling. 🦪 And, refreshing beverages will be available for purchase through Windhorse, so you can sip and enjoy as you celebrate the season! 🥂

Warrior Sailing Basic Training Camp

A Brief History of the Sock Burning Tradition:

The tradition of sock burning dates back to 1978 when boatbuilder Bob Turner, fed up with the long, harsh winter, tossed his winter socks into a campfire as a symbolic farewell to cold weather. What began as a spontaneous act of rebellion against sock-wearing soon became a cherished rite of Spring. As Turner told Baltimore Magazine, “It was never meant to be taken seriously. It just says, ‘Enough with the socks! Time to go sailing!’” Since then, marinas and yacht clubs across the country have embraced this quirky tradition, welcoming warm weather and the return of Sperry topsiders, flip-flops, and, of course, boating season.

Fast-forward to 2025, and the sock-burning tradition still stands as a symbol of clearing out the winter cobwebs and stepping into a fresh new season. To commemorate this event, Windhorse will host a celebration like no other!

Inaugural Event Highlights:

  • Sock Burning: At the heart of the event, we’ll burn socks (bring your own pair to toss into the fire!) to honor this quirky tradition, with a dedication by none other than Bob Turner himself.

  • Windhorse Wine: Sip on delicious wine & beer to pair with the festivities. *Wine & beer availalble for purchase through Windhorse

  • Food: Frogmore Stew prepared by Sea Sea of Seas Seas Honey Hole, Port Royal. *Food tickets will be available for purchase / Additional donations accepted

  • Live Music: Enjoy some great tunes as we gather around to toast the end of winter and the beginning of Spring.

  • Fundraising for Warrior Sailing: Donations will be accepted during the event to raise funds for this cause that is so near & dear to our hearts! (Or you can donate ahead of time online here)

Mark your calendar for this inaugural event at Windhorse! Whether you’re a longtime sock-burner or a first-timer, this celebration will surely be one to remember. Let’s raise a glass (and maybe a sock) as we kick off the season with fun, music, oysters, and the warmth of Spring in the air.

Whether you're looking to try something new or develop a new skill, this series is perfect for beginners and seasoned crafters alike.

Part 1: Batik Workshop
Immerse yourself in the ancient art of Batik, a fabric dyeing technique that uses wax to create intricate patterns, in this hands-on workshop. You’ll learn the basics of Batik, including how to apply wax, use dyes, and design your own custom patterns on fabric. Discover the process of creating a unique piece of art that you can keep to display or bring back to our bookbinding class, where we’ll use your Batik as a cover for a sketchbook bound by hand using the Coptic stitch method. You’re welcome to bring your own image for inspiration, or create a unique repeated pattern using your own creativity or one of the samples provided. By the end of the session, you’ll take home a beautiful, one-of-a-kind Batik piece ready to be transformed into a personalized sketchbook. We can’t wait to create with you!

Part 2: Bookbinding Workshop

Carve & Print: Holiday Card Workshop

Join us for an enriching and creative experience at our "Carve & Print: Holiday Card Workshop" with returning instructor and local art teacher Kelly Justus Campbell!!! Discover the joy of printmaking and take home your own handmade cards.

Details:

  • Cost: $75/person (includes demonstration of the lino-cut process with hands-on experience carving & pulling prints)

  • Duration: Two hours of class instruction, demonstration and creating

  • Beginner Level: This class is perfect for those new to that art of print making

What Participants Will Learn:

  • Live demonstration of the lino-cut process

  • Hands-on experience carving their own lino block

  • Printing techniques and practices

What Participants Will Create and Take Home:

1.     A print on paper to take home and frame.

2.     A set of 12 notecards and envelopes with a choice of a variety of holiday color inks.

3.     The carved lino block.

Join Tom Stevens (you may know him as the guy who sharpens your knives at the Port Royal Farmers Market, but we've learned he's much more than that) for a hands-on culinary adventure where you'll master the art of fermenting and create your very own sauerkraut. Tom will share his expert tips and tricks to ensure you leave with a jar of delicious, tangy kraut to enjoy at home! 

And because no fermentation workshop is complete without some funky ferments to sip, we’ll be pouring samples of our favorite Pet Nats (naturally sparkling) and Co-Ferment wines to enjoy throughout the class.
