We’re thrilled to welcome Emily Scott back to The Shed for our first Encaustic Workshop — a special afternoon of art, wine, and creative discovery inside the gallery.
Led by professional encaustic painter Emily Anne Scott, this two-hour guided experience introduces participants to the ancient medium of encaustic — painting with molten beeswax and pigment. Known for its luminous depth and rich texture, encaustic is both tactile and expressive, offering a uniquely sensory painting experience.
In her own work, Emily explores the ever-shifting landscapes of the human experience, drawing inspiration from the rhythms of nature and the subtleties of everyday life. Her layered approach—rich with wax, pigment, texture, and instinct—creates surfaces that feel both ancient and immediate. In this intimate class setting, she invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and explore what lies beneath the surface — of the material, the process, and yourself.
Guests will learn the fundamentals of working safely with wax and heat while creating their own small-format encaustic artwork. Throughout the evening, curated wine pairings will complement the creative process, making this a relaxed and memorable night in Port Royal.
No prior art experience is necessary — just curiosity and a willingness to explore.
This workshop continues the creative momentum sparked by our recent Blacksmith Workshop and is part of an expanding lineup of monthly classes and hands-on experiences at The Shed, presented by Windhorse in collaboration with Perrin Woodworking.

2nd Annual 'Socks to the Flame'
Join us @ The Shed on March 21st for the 2nd Annual‘Socks to the Flame”: A Sock Burning Party & Celebration of Spring Extravaganza, a fun-filled celebration that honors the rich history of the Maritime Sock Burning tradition! This lively event marks the official start of Spring and boating season, all while embracing the timeless spirit of defiance and renewal. We are proud to partner with the Warrior Sailing, a program of the USMMA Sailing Foundation, Inc. a 501(c)3 public foundation. All proceeds raised during the event will go to support the organizations efforts to provides maritime education for wounded, ill, and injured veterans, to support wellness, recovery and reintegration.
Socks to the Flame is a beloved community tradition rooted in maritime lore and created by our dear friend and fellow sailor, Bob Turner. It’s a joyful way to welcome the warmth and promise of spring while ceremoniously shooing away the chill of winter.
The day begins with a Community 5K Run/Walk at 9:00 AM, inviting runners and walkers of all levels to come together for a great cause. Registration is $35 for Adults and $15 for Youth (ages 15 and under), with all proceeds benefiting Warrior Sailing, supporting veterans through sailing, education, and community.
Warrior Sailing Basic Training Camp / Seattle, WA
The celebration continues in the afternoon with the Maritime Sock Burning Celebration from 3:00–6:00 PM—a time-honored sailor’s tradition symbolizing the official end of winter and the hopeful turn toward brighter, breezier days ahead. Bring your cold-weather socks, gather with friends and neighbors, and join us for this spirited ritual filled with camaraderie, laughter, and gratitude for the changing season.
Food and drink will be available during the Sock Burning celebration (3:00–6:00 PM):
Frogmore Stew – $15 per person
All-You-Can-Eat Oysters – $25 per person

Whether you’re running, walking, burning socks, or simply soaking in the atmosphere, Socks to the Flame is a meaningful and memorable way to celebrate community, tradition, and the return of spring.
A Brief History of the Sock Burning Tradition:
The tradition of sock burning dates back to 1978 when boatbuilder Bob Turner, fed up with the long, harsh winter, tossed his winter socks into a campfire as a symbolic farewell to cold weather. What began as a spontaneous act of rebellion against sock-wearing soon became a cherished rite of Spring. As Turner told Baltimore Magazine, “It was never meant to be taken seriously. It just says, ‘Enough with the socks! Time to go sailing!’” Since then, marinas and yacht clubs across the country have embraced this quirky tradition, welcoming warm weather and the return of Sperry topsiders, flip-flops, and, of course, boating season.
Fast-forward to 2026, and the sock-burning tradition still stands as a symbol of clearing out the winter cobwebs and stepping into a fresh new season. To commemorate this event, Windhorse will host a celebration like no other!

Join us for an intimate artist talk and wine tasting exploring the intersection of process, place, and perspective.
In TimePlace, painter and photographer John Duckworth shares the deeper story behind his work — how time spent observing the land shapes what ultimately appears on canvas and through the lens. His paintings and photographs are not simply representations of scenery; they are studies in light, atmosphere, and lived experience — moments distilled through patience and presence.
Central to this conversation is the idea of place as collaborator. Whether working outside in nature or composing a photographic frame, Duckworth approaches the landscape as something dynamic and relational — shaped by weather, season, memory, and human connection. His process is deliberate and immersive, grounded in returning to the same environments again and again to understand how they shift over time.
That same reverence for place extends beyond the gallery walls.
Featured during the evening are TimePlace Wines, whose labels showcase Duckworth’s landscapes — transforming his visual interpretations of the land into vessels that carry those stories outward. Just as his paintings and photographs capture the character of a location, the wines themselves are expressions of terroir — shaped by soil, climate, and craft. Together, image and wine create a layered dialogue about how land imprints itself onto both art and agriculture.

Bands Brews & BBQ
Here’s What You Need to Know:
Bands Brews & BBQ | February 13-14 | Port Royal, SC
It’s time for some food, music and fun on Paris Avenue in Port Royal with the 2026 Bands Brews and BBQ festival. The event, in its 15th year now, is bringing two days of food, music and fun with wings, barbecue, beers and live music on Friday and Saturday, February 13th & 14th.
The official South Carolina Barbecue Association sanctioned event benefits The Zonta Club of Beaufort and is always a fun time for foodies of all ages.
Friday night, February 13th is the Wing Throw Down from 6 to 9pm where you can sample wing recipes from participating cookers while enjoying live music from the Parris Island Marine Band, and Rick Rudd.
Saturday is all about the BBQ as BBQ tasting day runs from 11am to 4pm with cook teams from across the Southeast serving their award-winning butts. Flat Silly and another local band will be providing the entertainment for the day and there will also be food trucks on site serving up other fare.
