Hosted by Windhorse Gallery at The Shed in Port Royal, SC | October 10–12, 2025
We’re thrilled to invite you to the very first Port Royal Plein Air Invitational, a three-day celebration of art, community, and the vibrant landscapes of the South Carolina Lowcountry! From October 10–12, 2025, the charming waterfront town of Port Royal will come alive with artists capturing the region’s natural beauty in real time.
Hosted by Windhorse Gallery at The Shed, this inaugural event will bring together plein air painters from across the region to paint, connect, and share their work with the community. Whether you’re an artist, art lover, or simply curious, there’s something for everyone at this inspiring new festival.
What to Expect:
Live Painting All Weekend
Watch talented artists set up their easels throughout Port Royal—along the riverfront, under moss-draped oaks, and in the heart of our historic village. Witness creativity in motion as they translate the charm of the Lowcountry onto canvas.
Artist Demonstrations
Enjoy daily demos by featured artists, who will share their techniques, tips, and stories behind their work. These sessions are a great way for both fellow artists and the general public to gain insight into the plein air process.
Gallery Showcase & Artist Sales
Windhorse Gallery will feature a special exhibit of works created during the festival. Don’t miss the opportunity to purchase original art that captures the essence of Port Royal from a fresh perspective.
Juried Awards & Prizes
The festival will include several judging categories, with awards (and cash prizes!) for Best in Show and top works across various subjects and mediums. Our panel of jurors includes accomplished artists and community leaders who value artistic excellence and originality.
Evening Gatherings & Artist Receptions
Each evening, we’ll gather at The Shed to unwind with wine, music, and good company. These informal receptions are a chance for artists and attendees to mingle, connect, and celebrate the day’s work.
