Uncorked: Rock-N-Roll & Ochota Barrels

This Friday, Uncorked turns up the volume with a rock-n-roll-inspired tasting featuring the distinctive wines of Ochota Barrels, as we gear up for our neighbors’ inaugural Fuel & Fire Music Festival.

Founded by Taras and Amber Ochota in South Australia’s Adelaide Hills, Ochota Barrels has become synonymous with expressive, site-driven wines that challenge the conventional image of Australian wine. Taras Ochota brought a musician’s sensibility to winemaking—he played bass in punk bands—and that spirit of creativity, independence, and live-performance energy became part of the Ochota Barrels identity.

The wines are made with a decidedly hands-off philosophy, emphasizing organically farmed vineyards, native fermentation, old barrels, whole-cluster techniques, and minimal intervention. The result is wine with energy, texture, freshness, and personality rather than simple power or polish.

And just like a great record, these wines come with a soundtrack. Ochota’s labels and vineyard names reflect Taras’ love of music, from “Texture Like Sun” to “Where’s the Pope?”, “A Forest,” and Slint Vineyard. Each bottle feels like its own track—distinctive, memorable, and unmistakably Ochota.
